About Morris

Morris Meyer grew up in Ohio to a fiscally conservative and socially progressive white collar, middle-class family. His mother worked for JFK as the secretary of the Maryland Young Democrats. A musical family, both Morris and his father were members of the Canton musicians union. Morris finished his high school career by winning the Columbus Symphony Orchestra soloist competition and was a featured soloist with the CSO. Morris was also selected his junior year for National Honor Society.

Along with majoring in Computer and Electrical Engineering at Purdue, Morris spent three years on the varsity rowing team. Morris worked for the Engineering Computer Network for one of the original authors of the UNIX operating system.

Morris Meyer’s career started at Gould Computer Systems Division in Urbana, Illinois as an software engineer working on operating systems. Two years later Morris got the chance to work at Steve Job’s startup NeXT Computer on their newly announced computer hardware and software. Morris rose in the ranks amongst the finest software engineers in the world and led a small team to add telephony to the NeXT machine.

After NeXT Morris joined Apple’s growing online systems division in product marketing, with the responsibilities for online content and tools. Morris helped lead a successful launch of Apple’s eWorld online service and the accompanying content publishing tools.

Morris then left Apple to work for a small consulting company working for Fortune 500 clients, and then formed his own consulting company Surfworks where he still works today. Over the past 12 years Morris has consulted for a Los Alamos think-tank, CitiCorp Nortel, Sun Microsystems, Motorola performing a wide range of cutting edge software technology research.

An avid follower of national and local politics, Morris’ frustration with the policy makers at the time, led him to become active in his local Democratic party in Arlington, Texas. It was no surprise that the party had become disillusioned and offered little leadership. In 2004 Morris, with encouragement from fellow Democrats, ran for Congress in the 6th district against Joe Barton, a 20-year incumbent in the heart of Republican Texas – moving the numbers 11% closer in a tough year for Democrats

In the process, many activist groups were born from Morris’ passion and leadership, such as the North Texas Democratic Alliance, Metroplex Democrats and the Tejano Democrats of North Texas.

Morris moved to Virginia in May of 2006 to marry his love, Teri, a native to the Washington, D.C. area, whose own father worked in the Nation’s Capitol for 30 years. The Meyers have 3 children between them and own a home just north of Clifton, VA. Their children attend Fairfax County public schools, where Morris and Teri are members of the PTA. Morris and Teri also coached their youngest daughter’s soccer team last fall with SYA. They are also active members of the Fairfax County Democratic Committee and have worked for Jim Webb’s recent Senate campaign, as well as Andrew Hurst’s recent congressional campaign.
